2025 NHL Draft Lottery recap: Bruins fall to No. 7 pick with tough draw

The worst-case scenario unfolded for the Bruins on Monday night.

NBC Universal, Inc.

What to Know

  • The Bruins fell two spots to the No. 7 pick.
  • The last time the Bruins' own pick was in the top seven was 2006 (Phil Kessel at No. 5).
  • The Islanders won the lottery despite coming into the event with the 10th-best odds.
  • The two-best prospects in the 2025 NHL Draft class are Erie Otters (OHL) defenseman Matthew Schaefer and Saginaw Spirit (OHL) center Michael Misa.
  • The first round of the 2025 NHL Draft will be held on June 27.

The Boston Bruins had absolutely no luck in the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery.

They had the fifth-best odds to win the No. 1 pick, and the worst possible outcome for the B's was dropping two spots to No. 7. That's what happened after the New York Islanders (No. 1 pick) and Utah Hockey Club (No. 4 pick) won the two lottery drawings.

The Bruins actually had a decent chance at winning the draw for the No. 2 pick, even getting as high as 18.5 percent odds with one ping-pong ball left to pull, but their two remaining numbers didn't come up.
